Corporation for National and Community Service

Statement by David Eisner On Home Depot Disaster Assistance Gift

Statement by David Eisner
CEO
Corporation for National and Community Service

I am very pleased to announce that The Home Depot is making a gift of $500,000 to the Corporation for National and Community Service to support long-term hurricane-rebuilding efforts. The gift is part of $3 million that The Home Depot is donating to aid communities in the Southeast that have been battered in recent weeks by Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.

The Corporation will use the funds to make grants to non-profit groups that are working to rebuild community facilities such as schools, senior citizen centers, and community and youth centers in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina. The funds, which will be administered in coordination with the various state service commissions, will support nonprofit groups that are working to mobilize community volunteers to assist in long-term rebuilding efforts. Interested groups should call 1-877-979-6200 for more information.

Grants from The Home Depot to assist groups in Florida will be administered through the Volunteer Florida Foundation. The Foundation can be contacted at 1-800-FL-HELP-1 (1-800-354-3571).

In the past, The Home Depot has worked closely with the Corporation in playground builds and other service projects, and its chairman, Bob Nardelli, serves on the President’s Council for Service and Civic Participation.

We commend The Home Depot for this new approach to disaster assistance, which leverages the national and community service network to help those in need, and we deeply appreciate their continued leadership as corporate citizens.

Here is a press release from The Home Depot on its gift to the Corporation and other organizations.
