President Obama’s FY 2010 Budget Request for National Service |

Earlier today President Obama released his budget request for Fiscal Year 2010. I am pleased to report that the budget proposes $1.13 billion for the Corporation and its programs, an increase of $241 million from the 2009 likely enacted level. This request demonstrates the President’s strong commitment to national service and his belief in the critical importance of engaging citizens in tackling the tough challenges facing our nation. |

Senate Passes Stimulus Bill with National Service Funding |

This afternoon the full Senate passed the American Recovery and Investment Act by a 61 to 37 vote. The Senate bill contains $201 million for the Corporation and its programs. |

Thank You for Making History |

This has been a great month for service. Last Monday, you made history by helping organize the largest King Day of Service ever, as Americans across the nation came out in record numbers to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service to others. Last Tuesday, in an Inaugural Address viewed across the nation and around the world, President Obama saluted the American spirit of service and called for a new era of responsibility – “" recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character than giving our all to a difficult task."

Cancellation Notice for Planned System Outage |

Earlier this month we notified you of a system upgrade and outage scheduled for the weekend of January 23rd. Due to unforeseen issues, we are postponing the scheduled upgrade – the Corporation’s systems will be operational this weekend. |

Later this month we plan to take another important step towards improving the speed and reliability of our technology environment by moving our production systems to new servers at the Corporation’s headquarters. In order to make this upgrade, our systems – including the My AmeriCorps Portal, Recruitment System, eGrants and eSPAN – will be unavailable from 8:00 PM EST, Friday, January 23 through 7:00 AM EST, Monday, January 26. |
