President George W. Bush will meet Maya Babu when he arrives at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, on Saturday, October 30, 2004. Babu, 21, is a student at The University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Babufounded University of Promise Alliance in 2003 to promote volunteerism among college students and to educate students on the benefits of volunteer service as a means to address social problems.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corps to help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Babu, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Through University Promise Alliance, Babu hosts Community Outreach Forums, develops partnerships with youth-serving organizations to host Campus Awareness Symposiums, and spearheads on-going service projects. Babu also volunteers with the Urban Debate League of the Twin Cities for high school students in public schools. She works with a coaching team, along with other college students and high school teachers that helps high school students develop analytical thinking, public speaking, and research skills.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
