President George W. Bush will meet Mia Zimmerman when he arrives in Detroit, Michigan, on Wednesday, October 27, 2004. Zimmermanis an active volunteer with Catholic Social Services' Teen Parent Partner Program.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Zimmerman, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Zimmerman has been assigned three teenagers whom she has mentored during pregnancy, delivery, and for six months after the birth of their child. Zimmerman helps ensure the young women receive the proper medical attention, basic clothing and nutrition, and education to prepare them for motherhood. In addition, Zimmerman is a volunteer at Saint William Catholic Church in Walled Lake. She is a cook for a lunch program that provides meals to families after funerals and she also volunteers with the parish Moms and Tots group in which mothers and their children perform community service projects. Each week, Zimmerman also volunteers at Saint William School where her children attend elementary school.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
