President Bush to Recognize Dallas Retiree for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Michael Pybas upon arrival in Dallas, Texas on Monday, November 4th. Pybas is spending his retirement providing important volunteer services to Dallas nonprofit organizations.

President George W. Bush will meet Michael Pybas when he arrives in Dallas, Texas on Monday, November 4th. Pybas is spending his retirement providing important volunteer services to Dallas nonprofit organizations.

In his State of the Union address, President Bush called on all Americans to dedicate at least two years over their lifetimes to service to their communities, our country and the world. President Bush is recognizing individuals around the country who are answering the call to service and will recognize Pybas as an example of the dedication to service he is hoping to instill in all Americans through his USA Freedom Corps initiative.

Since 1995, Pybas has been volunteering his time three days each week with the Volunteer Center of North Texas, recruiting, placing, and managing volunteers. Two days a week he volunteers with the Rainbow Room program, providing supplies for social service case workers to use when they take children into protective custody. Pybas began his record of volunteer service in high school by working on a tornado repair and restoration project in his hometown. As an adult, he has worked with the Peace Corps to train volunteers and has been active in volunteer work through his church.

President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to foster an American culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through the USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the call to service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion around the world.
