President Bush to Recognize Indianapolis Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service |
|
President George W. Bush will meet Elizabeth Hamilton when he arrives in
Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, May 12, 2003. Hamilton is an active volunteer
with local schools and Christamore House, a full service community center.
Earlier this year, President Bush celebrated the first anniversary of the USA
Freedom Corps – his initiative to engage all Americans in service to their
neighbors and their nation. President Bush is recognizing individuals around the
country like Hamilton who are answering the call to volunteer service.
A longtime volunteer with her children’s schools, Hamilton spends at least 10
hours a week volunteering as a classroom assistant and with emotionally
handicapped students. For the last 5 years, she has also been a reading tutor.
Since 1998, Hamilton has volunteered at Christamore House, where she answers
phones, assists program participants, and works on special projects in the
office. Hamilton is also President of the Christamore House Guild, coordinating
the activities of 80 other volunteers to support the youth programs of
Christamore House through fundraising and through hands on service.
President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to
foster an American culture of service, citizenship and responsibility. Through
the USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the
call to service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect
our homeland, support our communities and extend American compassion around the
world. Interested volunteers can find information on the USA Freedom Corps at
www.usafreedomcorps.gov or
by calling 1-877-USA-Corps.
