AmeriCorps Week 2009: We’re Counting on You!

The third annual AmeriCorps Week, which takes place May 9-16, 2009, provides the perfect opportunity for AmeriCorps members, alums, grantees, program partners, and friends to shine a spotlight on the work done by members—and to motivate more Americans to serve their communities. Many events are being planned across the country. Individuals and organizations with a special interest in AmeriCorps—especially, members, programs, and alums—are encouraged to use their creativity to mark the week in any way they see fit. The choice is up to you!

What are YOU doing for AmeriCorps Week?

Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Make a presentation. Speaking to a school or community group is a great way to spread the word about AmeriCorps. An updated version of last year’s kit is on its way and will be available for ordering in the spring.

  • Video Corner

Get inspired for AmeriCorps Week 2009 by viewing fun videos about AmeriCorps, including winning entrants from the past two AmeriCorps Week Video Contests, as well as “Getting Things Done!” a short video that reflects the many ways that our members and project sponsors are addressing critical needs across America.  Click here to get started!

  • Produce a video … or take a picture! The third annual AmeriCorps Video Contest will once again take place as part of AmeriCorps Week. Submissions will be accepted beginning in May. This year we’re also adding a Photo Contest with the same theme: “Getting Things Done!” . For details on either contest, or to view wining video entries from last year, click here.

  • Plan an open house or service project. AmeriCorps programs can win local support for the work they do by organizing a service project, hosting an open house, or inviting local officials to become AmeriCorps members for the day!

  • Blog about your AmeriCorps experience. Use social networking Internet sites to talk about your AmeriCorps experience and to spread the word about AmeriCorps Week.  Don't forget to add an AmeriCorps Week widget or banner ad to your site as well!
