USA Freedom Corps - The President's Call to Service - Weekly Update

"...We also have essential responsibilities here at home, the unfinished work of American freedom. In a world moving toward liberty, we are determined to show the meaning and the promise of liberty. The greatest strength of America is the heart and soul of the American people. Every time a volunteer reaches out to a neighbor in need, our nation grows stronger and more hopeful."

A Message from the Director

As we transition into the summer months, we have decided to modify our Weekly Update. Beginning in August, we will debut a new format that will be sent out twice a month. This is in an effort to better serve and inform you of volunteer opportunities across the country. We look forward to sending you the first installment, and we welcome your feedback on how this new update can be the best possible resource for you.  Please email your comments to our webmaster at webmaster@usafreedomcorps.gov.

President Bush has encouraged volunteers to seek opportunities this summer in their own neighborhoods or vacation destinations.  Oftentimes, vital community needs are left unfulfilled during the summer months. With school out and vacation time at a peak, many of us have extra hours to serve others with friends or alongside our families - it's the perfect time to volunteer.

Summer greetings!

Call to Summer Service 2005

Long, relaxing days define summer. Volunteer support is especially important during this time of year because issues like hunger, senior companionship, environmental conservation, at-risk youth and public safety don’t take a summer vacation. Our country's needs simply don't "have time off."

It's the perfect time to mentor a child who wouldn't otherwise have supervision during the day, clean up a park site while hiking or take a leisurely stroll with a senior on the grounds of a nursing home. Summer opportunities are endless. Take a look at our Call to Summer Service 2005 section to find out how you can help no matter where you'll be spending time this summer!
