|
President George W. Bush will meet Dick Cancellier when he arrives in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Thursday, October 14, 2004. Cancellier, 70, is an active volunteer with the Sun City Anthem Security Patrol, a neighborhood watch program in Henderson.
President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 300 individuals around the country, like Cancellier, who are answering the call to volunteer service.
For the past four years, Cancellier has been the chief of the Sun City Anthem Security Patrol. He supervises 114 volunteers who participate in a neighborhood watch program that patrols a development of approximately 5,000 homes, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Cancellier has also completed Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training through the Las Vegas Fire Department and is the district coordinator and director of training for the Emergency Preparedness Committee in his neighborhood. He helps coordinate training for volunteers in fire prevention, bio-terrorism response, and search and rescue. In addition, Cancellier is a certified Red Cross instructor in first aid, CPR, and automatic external defibrillator (AED).
Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
