Chief Information Officer

Daniel G. MintzDaniel G. Mintz currently serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). As CIO, Mintz serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary on matters involving information resources and information services management, and provides leadership in using information technology to achieve the department’s goals and objectives.

Mintz came to DOT from Sun Microsystems, where he most recently served as the Director for Government Compliance Programs and was responsible for leading a corporate-wide group responsible for security, legal, and regulatory compliance for Sun’s US Government business. Over the previous ten years he was responsible for the profitability and successful implementation of large government and commercial programs both domestic and international. This included the creation and management of business and technical teams across Sun, Sun partners, and Sun customer boundaries.

Mr. Mintz’s over thirty-year professional career has included senior positions leading product marketing efforts, managing the implementation of software development, and performing technical consulting. He served as a Delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 2005, focusing on the utilization of technology to support improved medical delivery and the special issues of the nation’s senior citizens. He earlier served as a member of the State of Maryland Advisory Panel on Electronic Commerce providing advice on what legislation would be necessary to enable on-line commerce in the state.

Mintz earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, and a Masters in International Management from the University of Maryland University College.

Mr. Mintz resides in North Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife Ellen Elow-Mintz. They have two daughters. Miriam is an acting major at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Tamar is a political science major at the University of Rochester.
