  • FEMA would like to introduce HAZUS to colleges and universities as an effective tool for hazard mitigation planning. This summary was prepared by FEMA for the September 10, 2002 SCUP audioconference-Disaster Mitigation Planning: Outstanding Higher Education and Community Collaborations. • This excellent resource is really from FEMA, but it's served up on our website. It's a 38-page draft document about building a Disaster-Resistant University (pdf). It and a number of additional useful resources collected as a handout document for listeners at our November 9 audioconference are all listed here. Note that this draft does not include various attachments references in the draft itself. Update. Near-final versions of this document were distributed at the FEMA session at our conference in San Diego in July. When final tweaks are made to the FEMA document, we will have a link to the final version on this page.
  • Our November 9 audiocast was a wonderful learning experience. We are planning more, meanwhile audiotapes are available. To purchase a cassette tape of the "Emergency Planning Management: Facing our New Realities" audioconference, please call KRM at 1-800-775-7654. If you attended the broadcast the cost is $80 US for SCUP members and $90 US for non-members - the individual who made the broadcast reservation for your institution or firm will need to place the order. If you did not attend the broadcast, the cost is $160 US for SCUP members and $180 US for non-members.

SCUP Links to Useful Resources

Here are some useful links that were collected and distributed for those who listened to our November 9 audioconference - now being shared with everyone.

Earthquake Preparedness 101: Guidelines for Colleges and Universities (EP101) is an 85-page document prepared by the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OEP). Although focused on a specific potential disaster, and still a work in progress, EP101 is a valuable general resource. OEP has permitted SCUP to distribute the document, for free, and you can download it as a single PDF file or as 5 smaller PDF files, below:
