January 15, 2009... Gaza: Wounded at risk as Al-Quds Hospital is hit Geneva/Jerusalem (ICRC) - As a result of intesifying fighting in Gaza today, a number of medical and humanitarian aid facilities have been shelled. The Al-Quds Hospital run by the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Gaza City was hit by explosions and fire broke out, putting at risk the lives of around 100 patients and the medical staff caring for them. "It is unacceptable that wounded people receiving treatment in hospitals are put at risk," said Jakob Kellenberger, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who just completed a three-day visit to the area that included a stop at Shifa Hospital in Gaza. January 7, 2009... Gaza: access to the wounded remains top priority After nearly two weeks of uninterrupted fighting, obtaining access to the wounded remains difficult and is the highest priority in the Gaza Strip. Humanitarian organizations must be able to carry out their activities in safety. January 6th, several attempts by the ICRC to transport medical supplies to hospitals had to be abandoned because of fighting, even though the ICRC had made arrangements for safe passage. (More news)
January 6, 2009... Gaza: plight of civilians traumatic in 'full-blown humanitarian crisis' Increasing numbers of civilians are dying or injured in the escalating crisis in Gaza. At a press conference in Geneva on January 6, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) director, Pierre Krahenbuhl, described the situation of civilians in Gaza as intolerable, and called on the parties to the conflict to make it possible for the ICRC and the Palestine Red Crescent Society to reach people in need

January 5, 2009... Gaza: wonded people dying while waiting for ambulances As the number of casualties continues to rise in the Gaza Strip, the ICRC is focusing on arranging safe passage for Palestine Red Crescent ambulances, which collect the wounded and transport them to hospitals.
