EMI GRAM #673 - G386 Mass Fatality Incident Response

Course Information:  The Emergency Management Institute has revised this existing field course to update and increase the accuracy of the material while continuing to emphasize the Incident Command System.  Some of the topics covered include planning and resource requirements in advance of the incident; search and recovery of remains issues; managing the stress of workers in dealing with remains; establishing the morgue; setting up, staffing and closing the Family Assistance Center; and available Federal help for mass fatalities.

Course Length:  2 or 2.5 days.

Audience:  Local responders who may have responsibility for the recovery, handling, identification, and return of remains following a mass fatalities incident.  This may include emergency managers, coroners, volunteers, funeral directors, police, medical examiners, and a variety of other community professionals.

Prerequisite:  None

Course Goal:  The course is designed to prepare response personnel and other responsible professionals to respect and handle a mass fatalities incident effectively by properly caring for the deceased and the living--both responders and survivors.

Course Files:  Available to State Training Officers, FEMA Regional Training Managers and Tribal Representatives on the EMI Course Materials web page.  Advance copies of the revised course materials were sent on CD-ROM to some stakeholders.
