Course
Description: This course is conducted by the Emergency
Management Institute (EMI) in concert with the National Emergency
Management Association (NEMA). The course includes presentations
by subject matter experts, class discussions, and problem-solving
activities based on real-life events. Professional skills development
sessions are also included in the course and two internationally
recognized presenters are on the staff.
Course topics
include:
• Evolution
of state director responsibilities and authorities
• State-Federal interface on incidents of national significance
• The Emergency Management System
• Innovative approaches to partnerships in emergency management
• Responding to public interests on emergency management
• Management competencies for the successful state director
• Other contemporary issues in emergency management
Course
Length: 4-1/2 days. Starts Monday at 8:00 a.m. and ends
Friday at 9:00 a.m.
Audience:
The target audience for this course is state directors of emergency
management, and/or their deputy state directors, who have been in
their positions less than three years. Applicants meeting this criterion
will be eligible for travel reimbursement under EMI’s student
stipend program. New Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
regional directors and new deputy directors are also encouraged
to attend.
Location:
National Emergency Training Center (NETC), Emergency Management
Institute, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Enrollment:
Please complete a FEMA Form 75-5, General Admissions Application,
and forward it to the NETC Admissions Office through the state emergency
management office by July 29, 2005. The course is limited to 25
people, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served
