Course: E172 Advanced HAZUS Multi-Hazards (MH) for Flood

Date:  June 16-19, 2008

Course Description:
This course provides in-depth instruction and hands-on exercises that develop the skills needed to effectively use HAZUS-MH for modeling the impacts on communities from riverine and coastal flooding.

Course Goal:

  1. Provide detailed review of methodologies used to compile the extensive out-of-the-box inventory provided with HAZUS.
  2. Identify those inventory elements that should be given updating priority in order to produce the best possible loss estimates.
  3. Identify options that HAZUS-MH provides for generating a flood depth grid including              application of the Flood Information Tool (FIT).
  4. Explore the multitude of maps, tables and reports with a focus on how to interpret information provided in the outputs.
  5. Apply interpersonal skills to develop positive working relationships.

Prerequisite:
E313 Basic HAZUS Multi-Hazard (MH) course, any field or resident HAZUS course, previous or current use of HAZUS or ArcGIS software or skills equivalent to those taught in E190, Introduction to ArcGIS for HAZUS-MH Users.

Course Length:
4 full days. Travel days are Sunday and Friday.

Target Audience:
FEMA, State hazard mitigation officials, local emergency managers, GIS specialists, State and local planners, and regional personnel responsible for flood mitigation and response activities. 

CEUs:
EMI awards 2.5 CEUs for completion of this course.

National Emergency Training Center, Emergency Management Institute, Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Complete a FEMA Form 75-5, General Admissions Application, with student signature and signature of supervisor or sponsoring agency official.
