How To Use the DXF Editor: Modify Tools (Part 1)

The MODIFY Tools menu is located on the top main menu bar of the DXF Editor. There are several MODIFY tools that can be used to edit graphical details when creating flood profiles. The most common examples of these tools are: Erase, Copy, Move, Rotation, Scale, Text, and Explode. These tools can be easily accessed by using the shortcut buttons available on the left toolbar.

The following descriptions give step-by-step instructions on how to use each MODIFY tool:

Erase
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Click the Erase button or select "Erase" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the drawing objects (lines, text, etc.) that you want to erase. Multiple objects can be selected at this point.
  3. Right-click the mouse or press "Enter" to complete the action.


Copy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Click the Copy button or select "Copy" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the drawing objects (lines, text, etc.) that you want to copy. Multiple objects can be selected at this point.
  3. Right-click the mouse or press "Enter" to continue.
  4. Left-click the mouse to choose the point of copy origin.
  5. Move the mouse to the point of copy destination.
  6. Left-click the mouse at the point of destination to paste the copied object(s).


Move
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Click the Move button or select "Move" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the drawing objects (lines, text, etc.) that you want to move.
  3. Multiple objects can be selected at this point.
  4. Right-click the mouse or press "Enter" to continue.
  5. Left-click the mouse to choose the point of move origin.
  6. Move the mouse to the point of destination.
  7. Left-click the mouse at the point of destination to complete the move of the object(s).


Rotation
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Click the Rotation button or select "Rotation" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the drawing objects (lines, text, etc.) that you want to rotate.
  3. Right-click the mouse once or press "Enter' after selecting the objects that you want to rotate.
  4. Choose the base point of rotation by using the mouse, or entering (x,y) coordinate points in the Command window.
  5. Choose the rotation angle by using the mouse to drag the angle (for rotating at right angles, use the Ortho ON feature), or by entering the desired counter-clockwise angle in the Command window.
  6. Left-click the mouse or press "Enter" to complete the action.


Scale
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Click the Scale button or select "Scale" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the drawing objects (lines, text, etc.) that you want to scale.
  3. Right-click the mouse once or press "Enter" to continue.
  4. Choose the scale base point by using the mouse or entering (x,y) coordinate points in the Command window.
  5. Choose the scale factor by entering the desired scale multiplier in the Command Window, or by dragging the mouse (this is not recommended, as the scale factor tends to be too large when using the mouse).
  6. Press "Enter" or left-click the mouse to complete the action.


Text
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Select "Text" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the text you would like to modify.
    (If the text is part of a text block that was automatically generated by RASPLOT, you will need to Explode it first.)
  3. Edit the Style, Text, Height, and horizontal and vertical justification as desired.
  4. Click "OK" to complete the action.


Explode
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Click the Explode button or select "Explode" from the "Modify" drop-down menu.
  2. Using the mouse, select the group or object that you want to explode.
  3. Right-click the mouse once or press "Enter" to complete the action. The object should now be exploded into lines or text that can be selected and edited by other MODIFY tools.
