LSART has activated for to assist affected Parishes for Hurricane Ike. Most Parishes are handling their own needs and not having to turn to the State for help.  Louisiana citizens with concerns about animal issues should contact their Parish OEP or Animal Control Officers.

Your donations help LSART continue planning and training excercises between declared disasters. 
Planning and training is what has made the evacuation of pets from all 12 coastal parishes and sheltering in the northern part of the state so successful.

LSART is in need for funds to provide horse and cattle hay to
animals affected by Ike and Gustav. 
Donations from Amercian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (the "ASPCA")and the Dr. Walter J. Ernst, Jr. Veterinary Memorial Foundation have partially made possible the cattle and horse hay drop program being coordinated by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.  Additional funding is still needed. Donate today!  The parishes of Cameron, Plaquemines, and Vermillion have been particularly hard hit during these times.
 
The Ike Hamilton Expo Center in Monroe, Louisiana is accepting large animals evacuating from Hurricane Ike.  Contact information on hurricane evacuation sites for horses can be found here.  (September 16, 2008)

Temporary shelter established in Baton Rouge for pets of those who have been displaced from their homes.  Noah's Wish is helping to set this shelter up.  The State of Louisiana will provided shelter and care for all displaced pets until conditions allow them to return home.

Animal Owners who need help with Search and/or Rescue are asked to contact their local Parish Animal Control Officers.  All Search and Rescue activities are being coordinated at the Parish level Animal Control.

LSART is an all-volunteer organization, affliated with the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association.  We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to partner with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to provide assistance and leadership in animal-related disasters at the Parish level and at the state level ESF-11.  Our mission is planning for and response to animals in emergencies.
