Facilities

These 400+ year old structures at San Juan National Historic Site were built for warfare and protection of the city of San Juan. The surfaces at these locations are often rugged and uneven, most of the ramps are steep, and most staircases are narrow and steep. Preservation of the historic scene limits access to some areas.

Castillo San Cristóbal - Accessible parking is available at the Calle Munoz-Rivera entrance. Facilities for visitors with disabilities include restrooms, water fountains, two main exhibit areas, two bookstores, and the theater. An elevator provides access to the main plaza or first floor of the fort. The upper levels of the fort are only accessible via steep ramps.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro

The entrance to this fort has recently been rehabilitated allowing access to the entrance via a tram, which offers accommodation for visitors with disabilities.  Once inside, the main plaza (or fifth level), exhibit areas, a bookstore, and theater are all easily accessible.  The sixth level is accessed via two steep ramps.  The lower levels are not accessible.  Accessible parking in the area is not readily available.
