Two Weeks Left To Register For Flood Aid In Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Families, individuals and businesses in Missouri that have suffered damage from severe storms and flooding in mid-March have two weeks to register for federal assistance.

The deadline for registering for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance in the 35 counties declared for Individual Assistance is June 26, 2008.

Those who have not yet registered should call the FEMA Helpline and registration number, 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA). The TTY number for the speech- or hearing-impaired is 1-800-462-7585. The registration line is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week Online, register anytime at www.fema.gov.

The deadline to submit loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is also June 26.  SBA loan applications are a key part of the FEMA registration process.  If you are a homeowner or renter and SBA determines your cannot afford a loan, you may be referred for other eligible assistance.

The standard flood insurance policies from FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program have a 60-day period to file proof of loss. That deadline would have been May 16. Policyholders in Missouri have been given an extension to July 15 to file claims with their carriers.

The disaster declaration authorized FEMA’s Individual Assistance in the following counties: Bollinger, Butler, Callaway, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Christian, Franklin, Gasconade, Greene, Howard, Iron, Jasper, Jefferson, Laclede, Madison, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, St. Francois, St. Louis, Stoddard, Stone, Taney, Texas, Washington, Wayne, and Webster.

To date, FEMA has approved more than $12.68 million in aid to disaster victims, while the SBA has approved nearly $8 million in disaster loans to homeowners, renters, and businesses of all sizes, and nonprofit organizations.

FEMA coordinates the federal government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
