Only Two Weeks Remain To Register For Disaster Assistance

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Only two weeks remain until the June 27 federal disaster aid deadline, officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) announced today.
Friday, June 27 is the last day individuals can apply for FEMA assistance under the March 26 federal disaster declaration. The deadline is 90 days from the date when President George W. Bush issued the major disaster declaration.
"Since the March 26 disaster declaration, more than 12,500 people have registered for assistance," said Richard Griffin, state coordinating officer for ADEM. "There's still time for everyone who had damage to register. But don't put it off any longer."
"We want people to understand that this deadline is for new disaster applications for the March and April storms," said Federal Coordinating Officer Ken Riley of FEMA. "For those who already have applied, their cases will continue to be processed."
Arkansans who live in Arkansas, Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Clay, Cleburne, Conway, Craighead, Crawford, Cross, Desha, Franklin, Fulton, Garland, Greene, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Lee, Logan, Lonoke, Madison, Marion, Miller, Monroe, Newton, Perry, Phillips, Poinsett, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, Randolph, St. Francis, Saline, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Sharp, Stone, Van Buren, Washington, White, Woodruff and Yell counties and suffered damage during the March and April storms should call the FEMA registration line at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for persons with special speech or hearing needs, and register for assistance as soon as possible. Registration line hours are operational from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., daily. Applicants also can register online at any time at www.fema.gov.
The deadline to submit loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is also June 27. SBA loan applications are a key part of the FEMA registration process. If you are a homeowner or renter and SBA determines your cannot afford a loan, you may be referred for other eligible assistance.
