More Than $1.3 Million Approved For Western Farmers Electric Cooperative

Washington, DC -- More than $1.3 million in disaster funds have been made available by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to repair the public utilities system of the Western Farmers Electric Cooperative.
"We are proud to share in this important project because of the critical service provided to people in a multi--county area." FEMA Director Joe M. Allbaugh said. The 11 Oklahoma counties that reported damage include Carter, Coal, Comanche, Cotton, Garvin, Grady, Le Flore, Lincoln, Pontotoc, Stephens and Tillman.
The funds were authorized under the major disaster declaration for the ice storms, issued January 5, 2001, and made available through FEMA's public assistance program for state and local governments.
The funds will cover the restoration of the electrical transmission system, by installing new poles, crossarms, conductors, wiring and other hardware, as well as the equipment and labor needed to accomplish the work.
