DF-502: Disaster Travel Rules and Regs

Purpose of Course:

The purpose of this course is to train FEMA employees with travel manager responsibilities. This course is designed to be presented at the Joint Field Office (JFO). This course is a combination of the Travel Rules and Policies of FEMA (DF-502) and use of the Travel Manager 8.2™ Software Program (DF-254).

Course Objectives:

The DF-502 – Travel Regulations and Policies course objectives are to enable participants to:

  • Explain DHS/FEMA travel regulations and policies.
  • Explain the Prudent Traveler Rule.
  • Differentiate between local and “out-of-area” travel.
  • Describe lodging expense limits.
  • Explain the meals and incidental expense allowance.
  • Discuss travel bonus programs and government travel.
  • Describe the government travel card and compliance with the rules.
  • Determine which expenses are reimbursable.
  • Identify what receipts are required for reimbursement.
  • Target Audience:

    The target audience(s) for this training are FEMA personnel responsible for preparing travel vouchers. The audience may include those assigned to the Travel Unit in the JFO or other facilities. Tthis course can be used as a stand alone for individuals who are required to travel and need FEMA Travel Rules & Regulations.

    Approximate Time:

    12-16 hour(s) for the combination course of DF502 (2 hours) & DF-524 (8-14 hours). The course can be broken up into sections or modules as required or requested by the JFO Comptroller or Finance/Administration Unit Leads. Course hours also vary
