Course: IS 102 Deployment Basics for FEMA Response Partners

Course Description:
This course is designed to help prepare FEMA Response Partners for deployment to a domestic incident.  Responding to incidents requires that we must be ready, willing, and able to deploy at a moment’s notice.  This course provides personnel with practical tips and advice for incident deployment as well as a summary background of the National Response Framework (NRF), National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Stafford Act.

Course Goal:
Upon completing this course, the participant will be able to describe how to:

  1. Prepare for deployment, including detailing what information to gather, what steps to take, and what things to pack.
  2. Check-in when arriving at the assigned location.
  3. Acclimate to the working and living conditions at the Joint Field Office (JFO).
  4. Take care of themselves during deployment.
  5. Maintain standards for accountability.
  6. Complete the check-out process.

 

Prerequisite:
It is strongly suggested that personnel who have not completed the IS-700 and IS-800.b course, do so before starting this course.

Course Length:
The overall time to complete the course will vary for each individual.  IS-102 takes approximately 90 minutes.

Target Audience:
FEMA response partners including personnel from other Federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and private-sector companies.

Continuing Education Units:
EMI awards 0.1 CEUs for completion of this course.

This course is available at http://www.training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS.asp.  When you have completed the course, you may take the online test, fill out the student information and submit the test for scoring.  FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute’s Independent Study (IS) office will notify you via email of the results.  If you successfully complete the test, a link will be included in the email for you to access and print your course certificate.
