Course Description:
This course is designed to raise awareness within communities throughout the nation of the need to protect the economy from hazards.  Through mitigation and preparedness, the loss of business can be greatly reduced and ensure the economic health of the community.

Course Goal:

  1. Learn techniques to reach the small business owner and assist in finding simple solutions to reducing the effects of hazards to include mitigation against floods, wind, and earthquakes.
  2. Apply interpersonal skills to develop positive working relationships to include those affected by disasters.

Prerequisite:
None.
 
Course Length:
4 full days. Travel days are Sunday and Friday.

Target Audience:
Emergency managers, local economic development staff and officials, Chamber of Commerce staff and others who have a stake in local business.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):
EMI awards 2.5 CEUs for completion of this course.

Location:
National Emergency Training Center, Emergency Management Institute, Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Complete a FEMA Form 75-5, General Admissions Application, with student signature and signature of supervisor or sponsoring agency official. Submit the application through the State emergency management training office who will fax it to the National Emergency Training Center Admissions Office at (301) 447-1658.
