MapViewer Desktop v. 1.0 Beta Readme

The associated link provides the  Beta Release of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA)  MapViewer - Desktop.  This tool is designed to help FEMA's stakeholders best leverage available digital data.

In addition to the installer for the software, you require a  DFIRM (Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map) Database in FEMA's standard format to use the tool.  You may also find it helpful to locate and use the base map imagery for your county's DFIRM  with the MapViewer - Desktop.

The FEMA MapViewer - Desktop is a Microsoft Windows based software application program.  It was developed to allow users to open and view FEMA's DFIRM Database without the need for proprietary Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.  The DFIRM Viewer allows users to open and view DFIRM Database data with pre-set standard symbology, control how layers are displayed (i.e., on-off, color, symbology, and labeling), zoom and pan, select features, view the attributes of selected features, and locate addresses.
