Australian Dictionary of Biography (Online Edition)
Free Web version of the print reference source, with biographical profiles of prominent Australians who died before 1980. Users can browse alphabetically by subject, occupation of subject, or author of entry; there is also a keyword search with limits by date and occupation.
Australian Heritage Bibliography
Access to bibliographies and other resources drawn from an online index of documents and journal articles regarding Australian archaeology, history, and heritage sites.
Australian Heritage Database
Maintained by the Federal government, this is a searchable database of historic sites in Australia. Many of the database entries are extensively annotated; images are available for many sites.
Australia's Prime Ministers
From the National Archives of Australia, an online encyclopedia of biographical information (with images) on the prime ministers of Australia. Users can browse a timeline or a list of names, or search a "Who's Who" of Australian political figures.
Australian National Shipwreck Database
From the Federal Department of the Environment and Heritage, a searchable and browsable database of "all known shipwrecks in Australian waters" (including Norfolk Island). Users can search via a clickable map or do fielded searches by name of ship, latitude/longitude, and other criteria.
Documents on Australian Foreign Policy Database
From the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, a browseable and searchable collection of transcribed foreign policy documents (not digital images of the originals) from 1937 to 1959. Derived from the multi-volume print series Documents on Australian Foreign Policy, 1937 to 1949 (Canberra: Australian Government Printing Service, 1975-2001).
Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales
This foundation supports historic preservation and research; issues many scholarly publications on New South Wales architecture, local history, and other related topics; operates a research library specializing in architecture, heritage issues, the history of New South Wales, and historic preservation; and operates several museums in historic properties around the greater Sydney area.
Sydney City Council History and Archives
This subsite of the City Council’s official website includes a history of city goverment and symbols, Aboriginal history, and many other features.
