Kazakhstan is a recently independent country with an ancient culture. Until 1991 it was a part of the USSR, previous to that, beginning in about 1850 it was a part of the Russian Empire. From the late Middle Ages, until becoming part of the Russian Empire, the Kazakhs were an important people associated with the states of Central Asia and China. The attached websites give access to many aspects of Kazakh culture and history.

This is a finding aid for telephone directories from the countries of Central Asia: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It consists of over 60 entries representing the Library of Congress' uncataloged holdings of Soviet and post-Soviet era titles as of January 2007. It is arranged by country, then by city, and then by the year prominently displayed on the cover of the piece.
