BERRY: ENERGY BILL WILL BRING RELIEF TO FAMILIES

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today, Congressman Marion Berry (AR-01), along with 235 other members of Congress, voted to pass H.R. 6899, the Comprehensive American Energy Security & Consumer Protection Act. The bill is a comprehensive energy plan that will take action to bring down gas prices at the pump by expanding domestic energy supply and increase America's security and independence from foreign oil.

"This energy bill is something we have needed for a long time – action," said Berry. "This bill will implement a comprehensive, short and long term plan that will significantly change our energy policy. Not only are we putting our country on the right track with increased energy independence, we are also creating green collar jobs with real, livable wages, which will help boost our economy."

H.R. 6899 will open the Outer Continental Shelf for drilling while requiring oil companies to use the leases of land they have already been issued. The bill will also release oil from the strategic petroleum reserve, a proven method of quickly reducing prices at the pump. Additionally, the bill rolls back Big Oil tax breaks and invests the royalties in alternative energy technologies, creating more jobs for Americans. Finally, the bill promotes energy efficiency and conservation by providing tax incentives and loans for energy efficient homes, buildings, and updated efficiency standards for buildings.
