Berry: Deadline Approaching for Small Businesses Affected by March Disasters

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Because floods and severe weather have damaged several parts of Arkansas earlier this year, Congressman Berry (AR-01) is encouraging all eligible small businesses that were affected by the March storms to learn more about Economic Injury Disaster Loans available from the Small Business Administration (SBA).  The deadline to apply for this assistance is December 29, 2008.

Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) are low interest working capital loans created to help small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes meet their ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the disaster. These loans are intended to assist businesses through the disaster recovery period.

The following counties in the First Congressional District affected by the March storms occurring from 3/18/208 – 3/28/2008 eligible for assistance include: Baxter, Clay, Cleburne, Craighead, Cross, Fulton, Greene, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Marion, Monroe, Poinsett, Prairie, Randolph, Searcy, and St. Francis, Stone, Woodruff.

For more information individuals can call the SBA at 1-800-659-2955 from 8AM to 9PM (EST), Mon – Fri and 9 AM to 9 PM (EST) Saturday and Sunday.  Or visit the SBA's website at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.  For additional questions, individuals can call Congressman Berry's office at 1 800-866-2701.

Individuals can apply for assistance online by following the link below: http://www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance/SERV_APPLY_FOR_A_DISASTER_LOAN.html
