WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that the city of Marshall will receive a $765,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program. The city also will receive a $1,738,000 loan from USDA. These funds will be used to construct a new waste water treatment plant. The new plant will replace a system constructed in 1960 that experiences breakdowns and high repair costs.
“These federal dollars will help provide critical water infrastructure improvements for the people of Marshall,” said Lincoln. “I commend local leaders for working to secure this significant Rural Development investment.”
“After nearly a half-century of use, it is time for Marshall residents to receive a new water treatment plant,” said Pryor. “This investment will significantly benefit the community by providing a reliable, clean supply of water to area homes and businesses.”
“We must make critical investments in our infrastructure if we are to continue to grow our state economically,” said Berry. “Across Arkansas, rural communities face increasing demand for clean and safe water and these funds will allow Marshall to make essential repairs while at the same time providing some financial relief for the city’s budget.”
USDA Rural Development grants support public facilities and services, promote economic development, and offer technical assistance to help address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
