Lincoln, Pryor, and Berry Announce Funds for Emergency Management, First Responders, and Law Enforcement Officials

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that emergency management, first responders and law enforcement officials in Izard County, Jackson County, and the city of Mammoth Springs will receive federal funds from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program.

Izard County will receive a $17,000 grant through USDA to purchase equipment for emergency management of Izard County.  This equipment will help provide better public protection services to the citizens of the county.

Jackson County will receive a $15,000 grant from USDA.  It will use the funds to purchase two new police cars for the Sheriff’s department of Jackson County.  The new vehicles will enhance the ability of law enforcement to respond to emergency situations.

Mammoth Springs will receive a $13,000 grant through USDA, which will be used to purchase an Early Warning Siren System.  This system will provide greater awareness during inclement weather to alert citizens to dangers in the area.

“Rural Americans face unique challenges, and these federal funds will help improve our rural communities by providing critical safety measures,” said Lincoln.  “I applaud local officials for working to secure these significant investments that will enhance the quality of life for residents.”

“These are wise investments that will protect lives as well as provide peace of mind,” said Pryor. “Our brave first responders deserve the very best resources in order to get the job done right.”

“Our first responders need the best tools and equipment available to do their jobs,” said Berry.  "These resources will benefit both local officials and the citizens they serve and I look forward to finding more ways to support our rural communities.”

USDA Rural Development grants support public facilities and services, promote economic development, and offer technical assistance to help address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
