Lincoln, Pryor, and Berry Announce Funds for Pocahontas Fire Truck

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that the city of Pocahontas will receive a $50,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program.  Pocahontas also will receive a $110,000 loan from USDA.  These funds will be used to purchase a new fire truck to replace the existing model, which is over 30 years old.

“As first responders, our local firefighters play an integral role in keeping our communities safe,” Lincoln said.  “I applaud local officials for working to secure these significant Rural Development funds that will help firefighters protect Pocahontas residents.”

“It is critical that first responders have the equipment they need to respond to emergencies safely and effectively,” Pryor said. “This new fire truck will allow the city of Pocahontas to expand their efforts to serve their community.”

"A new fire truck for the city of Pocahontas is long overdue," said Berry.  "Our first responders must have up-to-date tools and equipment in order to do their jobs well.  I'm proud to help secure this funding, which will be used by the firefighters of Pocahontas to better serve their community."

USDA Rural Development grants support public facilities and services, promote economic development, and offer technical assistance to help address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
