Arkansas Delegation Announces More Than $3 Million to Assist State’s Crime Victims

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representatives Marion Berry (AR-01), Vic Snyder (AR-02), John Boozman (AR-03) and Mike Ross (AR-04) announced today that the Arkansas Office for Victims of Crime will receive $3,109,000 from the Department of Justice’s Crime Victims Fund.

“These funds will provide critical support for Arkansas’s victim assistance programs,” said Lincoln. “I’m pleased to see our state receive this money, which will help many Arkansans access the resources, counseling and assistance they need.”

“I appreciate the compassion, expertise and services that many organizations in our state offer to crime victims and their families,” said Pryor. “These funds will allow so many more Arkansans to cope and heal as they piece their lives together again.”

“This funding will give community organizations the resources they need to help victims and their families rebuild their lives," said Berry. "I'm proud to help secure this funding, which will continue to provide services to individuals who are in need of physical and emotional assistance.”

“Arkansans whose lives have been devastated by crime need services to help them recover. Arkansas has many caring, qualified organizations offering assistance to these Arkansans,” said Snyder. “Now, with this funding, these organizations can develop and expand their services to best assist these people in their recovery.”

“This funding will improve and expand services that are essential to helping victims heal,” said Boozman. “I commend the support and assistance these agencies have provided to comfort victims during difficult times.”

“These federal dollars will help Arkansas’s numerous crime victim assistance organizations continue their invaluable work throughout the state,” said Ross. “As I join my colleagues to make this announcement, I am proud that we can help provide support to organizations that open their doors to victims who often have no place else to turn.”

This Victims of Crime grant award provides funds from the FFY 07 Crime Victims Fund to enhance crime victim services in the state of Arkansas. Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) assistance funds are competitively awarded by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration to local community-based organizations that provide direct services to crime victims.
