Berry expresses support for Anheuser Busch and Arkansas jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Rep. Marion Berry (D-AR) toured the Anheuser Busch rice mill in Jonesboro, Arkansas on Thursday to express his support for the company and reassure employees that he will do all he can to protect their jobs.

"The Bush Administration has left us with such an uncertain economy that an American icon like Anheuser Busch faces predatory action from a foreign company that is looking to capitalize on a weak dollar and strugging economy," said Berry. "I am not going to stand by and let that happen without a fight. My friends Senator Claire McCaskill and Senator Kit Bond had it right when they told InBev 'This Buds not for you.'"

Rice is vitally important to the Arkansas economy and Anheuser Busch is a significant purchaser of Arkansas rice. The uncertainty caused by the deal could negatively impact the Arkansas farm economy if InBev sources grain from South America, Vietnam, Thailand or other overseas producers.

"I want Anheuser Busch and their employees to know that Arkansans truly value their presence and commitment to the community," said Berry.
