WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Berry announced the following grant money has been secured by seven airports in the 1st Congressional District. This grant funding is awarded through the Airport Improvement Program, a federal grant-in-aid program of the Department of Transportation and administered through the Federal Aviation Administration.
Below is a list of airports and amount of funding received:
Clay County: Corning Municipal Airport
$128,124 – Funding will be used to install an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) that will provide critical weather condition information to pilots using the airport.
Greene County: Kirk Field
$153,843 – Funding will be used to construct a taxiway to provide access to airport hangars and install perimeter fencing to enhance security.
Izard County: Horseshoe Bend Airport
$444,963 – Funding will be used to conduct a master plan study to define airport improvements and prioritize future development. In addition, money will be used to update the runway safety area to current FAA standards.
Lee County: Steve Edwards Field
$95,000 – Funding will be used to acquire runway protection zone property to will enhance the protection of persons and property on the ground near the airport.
Mississippi County: Gosnell Regional Airport Authority
$114,000 – Funding will be used to rehabilitate runway lighting and update it to current FAA standards.
Searcy County: Searcy County Airport
$408,000 – Funding will be used for the construction of a partial parallel taxiway, which will enhance safety and eliminate aircraft back-taxiing after landing.
Woodruff County: Woodruff County Airport
$142,635 – Funding will be used for runway rehabilitation.
