WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) recently announced that the University Center Program at Arkansas State University will receive $97,850 from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration. This funding will be used to provide technical assistance, applied research, information dissemination, and program management to help promote entrepreneurship, and increase long-term competitiveness and economic diversification in the region.
“These funds will help ASU and the Jonesboro community unite their resources to strengthen economic development throughout the region,” said Lincoln. “I’m pleased to see the federal government make this investment in our state, and I’m confident that the funds will make a positive impact on Northeast Arkansas for years to come.”
“Entrepreneurship is the backbone of a successful economy,” said Pryor. “This grant will elevate the programs offered by ASU and have a real impact on the success of the business community now and in the future.”
"These federal dollars will allow ASU to continue the outstanding work they are doing to increase regional and community economic development by providing workforce training, and assistance for small businesses," said Berry. "An educated workforce is essential to growing the local economy and this grant will give ASU more resources to empower their students with the skills to succeed, which will ultimately benefit the community."
