Rogers Statement on Honoring Life of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Recognizes January 15 as national day of remembrance

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  Congressman Mike Rogers made the following remarks today in advance of Monday’s national holiday recognizing the life and legacy of the late civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Dr. King devoted his life to work for social equality and for the advancement of all Americans.  His vision of a better world and his teachings of peace should serve as an example to us all in everyday life.

“East Alabama is rich in civil rights history. Having recently celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and mourned the passing of other great civil rights leaders like Mrs. Rosa Parks who worked closely with Dr. King, this year let us once again remember the man who lived his life working for a better world for us all and for generations to come.”
