Rogers Says Anniston Army Depot Should Receive $1.4 Million for New Ammo Building
Another key investment into ANAD’s long-term future

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -  The Anniston Army Depot should receive $1.4 million to help construct an important new ammunitions storage facility, thanks to the final version of an appropriations bill which passed the House of Representatives this afternoon, Congressman Mike Rogers announced today.

Rogers said the $1.4 million appropriation, one of his top priorities for Calhoun County in 2008, was contained in H.R. 2638 - The Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009, which passed the House yesterday 370 to 58 with one voting present. Rogers voted in favor of the bill, which is expected to pass the Senate and should be signed into law by President Bush. The bill funds the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and the Veterans Administration for 2009.

“Long-term investments like these show the strong support Congress continues to have for the Anniston Army Depot and its critical role in our nation’s defense,” Rogers said.  “The construction of this new facility, along with the new Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plant, is much-needed and will help the Depot meet our warfighters’ needs for years to come.”

Rogers explained the funding will allow the Depot to move the current outdated ammunition classification facility to a new site. The project includes construction of a new railroad spur.

“I certainly appreciate the ongoing support of Senators Shelby and Sessions in the Senate for this important Calhoun County project,” Rogers added.

Rogers said the funding levels announced today could change slightly depending on the implementation of the legislation next year. Rogers serves on the Homeland Security Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee.
