KERRY, KENNEDY, NEAL ANNOUNCE FUNDING FOR NORTHAMPTON'S 'SOLDIER ON' TO HELP HOMELESS VETS
BOSTON – Senators John Kerry and Edward Kennedy and Congressman Richard Neal today announced that the United Veterans of America, doing business as Soldier On, a homeless veteran’s shelter in Northampton, has been awarded the Homeless Providers Grant as part of the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program. The funding will allow Soldier On to give shelter to even more of our state’s homeless veterans. It will also allow the shelter to continue its work helping homeless veterans increase their marketable skills, while providing them with a safe place to stay. “Soldier On serves hundreds of men and women who’ve served their country with honor, and who find themselves in need of assistance. We should be there for those who were there for us. Whether it’s drug counseling or legal advice, Soldier On will find a way to help our veterans. I am extremely proud to be part of what they are doing for our veterans,” said Senator Kerry. Kennedy spokesperson Melissa Wagoner said, “All our veterans deserve our immense gratitude for their service to our nation. Soldier On is doing extraordinary work to honor these heroes for their courage and their sacrifices.” “I have worked closely with Jack Downing and his staff at the United Veterans of America for many years. The care they provide to our local veterans is nothing short of extraordinary. This federal grant will allow them to continue the good work they do each day at their shelter in Leeds,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal. ###
