Kerry, Kennedy, and McGovern announce $1,900,000 grant for Attleboro Redevelopment Authority
BOSTON- Senators John Kerry and Edward Kennedy today, along with Congressman James McGovern, announced that the Attleboro Redevelopment Authority will receive $1,943,557 from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the construction of the Attleboro Intermodal Transportation Center. The center will be located next to the Attleboro commuter rail station and will house a new bus terminal for the Greater Attleboro-Taunton Regional Transit Authority's local bus and van services. The grant also funds the construction of a 900 space structured parking garage and 180 space surface lot to accommodate commuter rail patrons. This most recent grant brings the FTA's commitment for this project to $7,396,439. "The tremendous environmental and economic benefits of public transportation can only be realized if the public actually has easy access to public transportation options," Senator Kerry said. "This funding will make public transportation a more realistic option for many people in the Attleboro area and I commend the DOT for investing in our state’s public transportation system." “Smart transportation investments are vital to Attleboro’s quality of life and its economy,” Senator Kennedy said. “This needed federal funding is an opportunity to make lasting transportation improvements.” “I’m very pleased that Attleboro is continuing to move forward with this important project,” Rep. McGovern said. “The Intermodal Transportation Center will serve as a catalyst in re-energizing a vibrant downtown Attleboro.” ###
