BOSTON - Senator John Kerry today issued the following statement on the Walpole Little League Team advancing to the Little League World Series.
"With the incredible performance of these young players, it's safe to say that now Morgan Magic isn't the only great baseball story to come out of Walpole.
"What a time to be from Massachusetts. Our state is home to the first place Red Sox, the three time world champion Patriots, the new Celtic trio of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce - and now the Walpole American 12 year old All-Stars.
"These Walpole ballplayers are remarkable. The countless hours of practice, teamwork and camaraderie both on and off the field speaks volumes about their character. In an age of tainted home run records in the major leagues, these kids went out and reminded us what baseball should be about.
"Although as a Sox fan I'm a little worried that three of the players say Derek Jeter is their favorite slugger, there's no doubt these young athletes have already made Massachusetts proud. We wish them the best of luck in the World Series."
