Statement from John Kerry on Senate Defeat of LIHEAP Amendment
Senator John Kerry released the following statement today Senate defeat of LIHEAP Amendment:
As the days get shorter and temperatures continue to drop, it's unbelievable that the Senate continues to stand in the way of common sense solutions to the home heating crisis coming upon us this winter. American families and seniors are going to be forced to choose between their very basic needs this winter - the choice between putting food on the table and paying heating bills is real, and will affect too many families this winter.
"It's long overdue for Republican leaders in Washington get their priorities straight - before it's too late. When schools can't afford to heat their classrooms, seniors scrimp on medical costs to heat their homes and parents worry how to make ends meet to keep their families warm and fed, it's clear we've truly failed our families. Republicans in Congress need to act now, put the politics aside that got us into this heating crisis, and finally do what's right for our kids and seniors."
