Senator Kerry Applauds Fight to Keep Otis Open, A-10s at Barnes
Below is a statement by Senator John Kerry on the announcement that the Commonwealth will file suit tomorrow in U.S. district court to prevent the closure of Otis Air National Guard Base and to prevent the transfer of planes from Barnes Air National Guard Base.

“The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is rightly pursuing all options to keep Otis open. We’ll all keep fighting to keep Otis up and running and keep the A-10s at Barnes where they belong.
“The decision to close Otis made no sense all along and makes even less sense now that it will play a key role in hurricane recovery. On 9/11 and now in the wake of Katrina’s destruction Otis has played a key role in our domestic preparedness.
“The need for Otis to help deal with emergencies like these underscores why closing the base would be such a bad idea.”
