Welcome to the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division!

Kenneth D. Gray, GPSLD Chair, 2008-2009
Kenneth D. Gray
GPSLD Chair
2008-2009
It is an honor to serve as Chair of the Division for 2008-2009. I’ve been a member of the Division’s Council since 1997. I first became active in the Division because of the sincerity, genuine camaraderie, and the selfless dedication to public service that I observed in the members of the council.

I am excited about the programs and Web offerings the Division plans to implement later this year – and I know you will find them to be both useful and interesting. If you have any comments or questions for me or the Division, please don’t hesitate to use the ‘feedback’ link located to the right of this message.

About the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division

The Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division's mission is to serve the nation’s public lawyers. By promoting integrity and excellence among public advocates, providing meaningful services not obtainable elsewhere, and by highlighting the extraordinary work of public lawyers, the Division works to enhance the position of public lawyers and create camaraderie and pride within the public sector. The Division is dedicated to providing representation within the ABA for government and public sector lawyers who make up one eighth of the legal profession.

Public Law Office Management

The Division's members-only Public Law Office Management Web page offers resources on improving communication with your clients, dealing with the media, obtaining grants for office programs, supervising employees, and developing mentoring programs. Test your public law office knowledge with the PLOM Quiz!

Public Lawyer Career Center

The Division's Public Lawyer Career Center allows members to access employment and internship openings, links to public law offices across the country, mentoring opportunities, and articles on career issues from Division periodicals.

ABA Resolution Urges Government Lawyers to Serve Through Pro Bono Activities

Visit the Division's Pro Bono Web page for more on the Resolution, and for suggestions, guidelines and sample pro bono policies to help get your office involved.

Take the Pro Bono Survey
The Division and the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service seek information concerning participation in law-related pro bono service and the factors that may influence involvement. We appreciate your input -- and the survey takes just three minutes to complete.
