Let it die

The Religious Viewpoints Antidiscrimination Act is to be resurrected? Good Grief! Surely even Betty Chapman, of the "we're the only state that voted correctly" variety, is capable of recognizing the utter absurdity of requiring teachers to accept any religious answers to questions about factual matters ("Okie pride," Dec. 1). This would undercut, hamstring any teaching, and render Oklahoman "education" impotent, useless.

Bruce Plante's May 26 cartoon showing the student answering Satan to every history question summarized the idiocy of this policy.

Surely we can let it die its well-deserved death.

Bob Hooper, Fort Gibson

Why is it that we have some who are afraid of faith. The bill Mr. Hooper speaks, would die if enough people would contacted their representative and voice their opposition.

MyView, I'm not afraid of imaginary gods, but I am disappointed when believers in those imaginary gods try to force their superstitions on other people's kids in public schools.

Charles Darwin,

I am not disappointed, I am INCENSED when GODLESS
Teachers try to force their atheistic views on other peoples Kids in public Schools!

To teach ANY theory as fact is Fallacious to a Fault.

This Bill, in my understanding, is NOT directed toward the Study of Science.

So, Can You help me to understand why Science is the only thing you "Guys" refer to in referencce to this Bill???

"I am not disappointed, I am INCENSED when GODLESS

Kerugma, you have the option of putting your children into dogmatic religious schools. If you want a state-funded education, though, you will have to accept a secular curriculum.

"To teach ANY theory as fact is Fallacious to a Fault."

Well, shucks. There goes gravity, the heliocentric planetary model, our understanding of memory, the atom (nobody has ever seen one), and many other facets of science that are just "theories". Perhaps you believe we should just completely remove science education from the classroom.

"So, Can You help me to understand why Science is the only thing you "Guys" refer to in referencce to this Bill??? "

Because that is what is at the heart of it, and you supporters know it. Evolution. You hate the concept of evolution, even though that is what the discoveries of science are overwhelmingly showing to be what really happened. This bill is an anti-evolution measure. Aunt Sally is a radical evangelical who sees her first responsibility as evangelizing her personal religious views (with the force of legislation if necessary).

I do wonder, however, how ya'll evangelicals are going to enjoy watching a student use satanic or islamic ideology in the classroom and then pointing out that the good christian teacher can't do a thing about it because of this law? Or, did you "guys" intend for this bill to be just for christians?

If we're gonna dump science and start teaching religious myths instead, we Pastafarians will expect equal time for the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Give us this day our daily pasta.

tbgalileo, Science is NOT at the heart of it .

I personally believe that Evolution should be taught in our schools as a THEORY.

Religious Expression is vital in any education system. It would not bother me a bit for a Student to offer Muslim or Satanist Ideology in a sincere manner.

Now, Are YOU "GUYS" actually GODLESS? Yes or NO

Universities might will decide to disaccredit school systems that let "god did it' be a proper answer in science class.

What bio-tech companies would hire such students?

Meanwhile we Pastafarian's are getting our agenda ready for presentation. I will have clam sauce today thanks.

Oh and then there is the matter that this law is ILLEGAL - and after the state spends millions of dollars to defend this lie of a law - it would be tossed out. Ask the Dover PA school board how it worked out for them - most folks have figured it out, but not the Okies?

Kerugma, which god? There have been hundreds -- if not thousands -- of god myths invented over many millennia. There are some god myths I like more than others. I don't particularly care for petty jealous ones that have tantrums and create floods to wipe out the human species.

Evolution is a THEORY and so is gravity - and both good ones. ID and creationism are not theories, not science - but matters of religious faith which have no predictive value (poof god did it).

But if you insist when can I come to your school district to teach the pasta lessons?

Yellow Dog, You wrote "but matters of religious faith which have no predictive value (poof god did it)."
Matters of Science have no intrinsic Social or Spiritual REDEMPTIVE Value.

Which is more important to our personal lives-

"predicitve" or "social and Spiritual"????

Most people who support the theory of evolution point to the fact that an apes DNA is almost identical to that of a human. However those who oppose this theory will point to the fact species who evolved from other species actually took the place of it's ancestral lineage. I'm pretty sure that if you took the DNA from a modern day alligator and any prehistoric reptile that one would find many similarities in their DNA. Just as one reader stated, if we evolved from apes then why are they strill here? Conventional wisdom should have us believe that we, like other species, took the place of those that we evoloved from. Why were the apes special? I believe that we may have evolved into what we are today from several generations of humans who walked the earth. As we evolved our brains changed, our physical appearances changed, and our reasoning and cognitive skills changed. But I sincerely don't believe we evolved from the ape itself. That's not creationism speaking, that's just my thought.

Why do Aunt Sally and her clan feel the need to impose Christianity in the PUBLIC schools? Is Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday evening not enough for you people? Give it a rest already! How about spending your time better by trying to help the starving children of the state or the homeless mothers and maybe improve our lack of healthcare for our citezens. You evangelicals have your priortities bass ackwards!!!!
