Speaker Biography: Walter Dean Myers's ideas for more than 70 books for young people come from his own background and interests. He is the author of "Monster," which was the 2000 Michael Printz winner, 2000 Coretta Scott King Honor book and the 1999 Boston Horn Book Fiction Honor. In addition, he won two Newbery Honor Book Awards for "Scorpions" and "Somewhere in the Darkness." He is also a two-time recipient of the Coretta Scott King Award for "Now Is Your Time!" and "Fallen Angels." Myers also received the Margaret A. Edwards Award for his contribution to young adult literature. Recent publications include "At Her Majesty's Request: An African Princess in Victorian England," "Blues of Flats Brown" and "Journal of Biddy Owens, the Negro Leagues." Myers resides in Jersey City, N.J.
Speaker Biography: Christopher Myers, a writer and artist, is best known for his award-winning picture books such as "Harlem," a Caldecott Honor Book and Coretta Scott King Honor Book written by his father, Walter Dean Myers. His own book, "Black Cat," received a Coretta Scott King Honor Award. Their latest father and son collaboration is "Blues Journey." He lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.
