Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates hosts an honor cordon to welcome Georgia’s Minister of Defense Vasil Sikharulidze to the Pentagon today at 12:30 p.m. EST. The cordon will be held on the steps of the Pentagon River Parking Entrance. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort to the cordon.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England has no public or media events on his schedule.

The Secretary of Defense’s Task Force on Nuclear Weapons Management will provide a briefing on their findings and recommendations for improvements for management of the nuclear enterprise at 10:00 a.m. EST, Jan. 8, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973. The task force chairman, James R. Schlesinger, will discuss the second of two reports; this one focused on DoD-wide matters. The first report, released Sep. 12, 2008, focused on matters involving the Air Force.  Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only.
