On Monday, April 30, I meet with students from Kahuku High and Intermediate School in Washington, D.C. to compete in the "We the People" national competition. These students are the Hawaii state champions and I look forward to welcoming them to our Nation's capital.
Monday afternoon, I am chairing the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management hearing on the federal government's role in empowering Americans to make informed financial decisions.
Tuesday morning, I meet with Shantanu Narayen, President and Chief Operating Officer of Adobe Systems, Inc. Mr. Narayen is supportive of my bill, S. 1074, which extends the ability to e-file IRS returns to individual taxpayers.
Later Tuesday morning, I am chairing the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management hearing on the nomination of Howard Weitzman as Deputy Director of the Office of Personnel Management.
Tuesday afternoon, I meet with representatives from the Hawaii Dental Association who are in Washington for a conference.
Also Tuesday afternoon, I meet with educators who will provide an update on Kauhale `Oiwi o Pu`ukapu: Hawaiian Community Learning Center.
Wednesday morning, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee will consider the Democratic Energy package.
Also Wednesday morning, I will meet students from Waipahu High School who are in Washington to participate in the Close Up program.
Wednesday afternoon, I meet with Hawaii representatives attending the Associated General Contractors of America conference to discuss the state of Hawaii's construction industry.
Also Wednesday afternoon, I am chairing the Subcommittee on Government Oversight hearing on the US Customs and Border Protection's One Face at the Border initiative.
Thursday morning, the Indian Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on my bill, S. 310, the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act of 2007.
Friday morning, I meet with John Henry Felix, former Red Cross Board member, to discuss issues regarding the American Red Cross and services provided by the Red Cross in Hawaii.
