WASHINGTON - Due to higher than expected turnout, the temporary Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) enrollment center in Kona will continue operation on Monday, September 22, U.S. Senators Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka announced today. Last week, they announced the opening of the temporary enrollment center in Kona.
Prior to this initiative, West Hawaii workers who are required to have a TWIC card for unescorted access to secure maritime facilities and vessels had to drive to Hilo to enroll. This includes United States Coast Guard-credentialed merchant mariners, port facility employees, longshore workers, truck drivers, and others. Workers should contact their employers to determine if they need this credential.
Location: TWIC Enrollment Center Kona Coast The Charter Desk at Honokohau Marina 74-381 Kealakehe Parkway Kailua Kona, Hawaii 96740 Hours of Operation on Monday, September 22: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
TWIC cards are required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002. The TWIC is a tamper-resistant credential that contains a worker's biometric information to positively establish his or her identity.
