Akaka to Question Petraeus & Crocker on Iraq

Tomorrow's Armed Services hearing first update for Congress in months

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) is scheduled to attend a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee tomorrow in which he will question the General and Ambassador in charge of the Iraq War.  This hearing is expected to receive live coverage on national cable news networks.

The hearing will be carried live on CSPAN and cspan.org. 

Who:                Sen. Akaka and fellow committee members to question Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker

What:               Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin, Chairman.

Where:             Dirksen Senate Office Building SD-106, Washington, D.C.

When:              Tuesday, April 8, 2008.  Hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (3:30 a.m. Hawaiian).  Sen. Akaka is expected to ask questions between 10:30 and noon Eastern (4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Hawaiian). 

Why:                To receive testimony on the situation in Iraq and progress made by the Government of Iraq in meeting benchmarks and achieving reconciliation.

Senator Akaka is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
